Citadelle Vauban
Overlooking the port of the Palace, Citadelle Vauban symbolizes a thousand years of history in Belle-Ile-en-Mer.
Founded in the Middle Ages, rebuilt by Vauban from 1683, it deploys today, after 40 years of restoration, its 10 hectares of bastions, curtain walls, casemates, powder magazines, arsenal … in the middle of a landscaped park and in an exceptional panorama.
By creating a quality inn and a restaurant “La Table du Gouverneur” which completes the unique set of the Hotel Museum, Citadelle Vauban offers a place of character and charm.
The Citadel is devoted to culture and relaxation, suitable for holidays, events, seminars and conferences. In July and August you can enjoy evening performances at the Belle-Ile-en-Mer festival “Lyrique-en-Mer”, where the former Arsenal is brought back to life.
Vauban Citadel found its vocation in hospitality, and today the “barracks” have become beautiful rooms with views across the sea, while the “prisons” are paved in “gold” !!… because they cultivate the simple happiness of living well …
